White Ink Tattoos: Are They the Right Choice for You?

Tattoo Procedure

Tattoos have become quite popular. When done properly they are gorgeous and can express the sentiments of the wearer. A perfect example would be someone who loves dogs may want a dog tattoo of a specific breed. Once you have decided to get a tattoo the first step is choosing which design you want. Tattoo shops have an enormous selection of tattoos or can custom create a tattoo just for you.

Most tattoo shops will require you pay before they begin. You will need to provide proof of your age and information for an emergency contact. At this point you will be directed to a tattoo chair. The chair is usually located in a private area so you can relax.

Getting A Tattoo

Your tattoo artist will now rub down the area where your tattoo will be placed. This cleans the area and helps prevent infection. Rubbing alcohol is usually used. Once the exact placement has been confirmed your skin is moistened. This allows the transfer to really stand out. Your tattooist now puts on latex gloves and prepares the ink.

The outline of your tattoo is done first. An ointment will be used to help the needle move smoothly. Once this is completed the tattoo will be filled in with color and shading. The length of time required depends on the size of the design and how many colors it contains. Very large tattoos will usually require several visits.

White Ink Tattoos

White ink tattoos are stunning. The outline of white instead of the usual black give the tattoo the illusion of glowing. Often the white ink will be mixed with another ink so the lines gleam. This type of tattoo works especially well for three dimensional shadows and the image really stands out beautifully.

There are a few drawbacks to this type of tattoo. How effective the white ink is depends on the technique of the artist and the brand of the ink. You can’t be certain exactly what your tattoo will look like once it has had time to age. Sometimes the pure whiteness is retained. Often most of the inks used fade and become transparent or a greenish-gray coloration. Having a tattoo that changes is disturbing because tattoos are supposed to be permanent.

It is critical to be positive you are using the right tattoo artist. You want someone who has been doing white ink tattoos for a very long time. By talking to an experienced tattoo artist and observing the tattoos of their clients you can get a good idea of what to expect. You will also be able to tell how this type of tattoo will look on your skin and if it something you want. Remember you will have this tattoo for a lifetime. Make sure you get exactly what you intended.
